08 Nov Quintessential Romance…
A romantic, vintage affair was the wedding of Laura and Louie – utterly dreamy and idyllic. Gorgeous features of the day included stylish tweed, a VW Camper van, and lovingly handmade decorations…it was the ultimate in country romance. And for the icing on their wedding cake, our Edwardian venue contributed to the country theme; set in the beautiful Cheshire village of Bowdon. Content writer, Nadia Danaos, shares the details of their joy – while Lizzie Henshaw provided the snaps of the day.
The 24th September was to become the happiest day for Laura Benjamin and Louie Mulhern-Atwell as they began it in an effortless style which set the scene for the entire occasion.

Meanwhile, the lovely Laura was ready to go…
Bringing proud parents tears of joy…
Setting the scene for the romance theme – with a sprinkle of period charm – The Bowdon Rooms delivers on every level. “We just got that feeling that everything would be perfect in this venue”, enthused Laura. “We were absolutely wowed.”
With groom Louie patiently anticipating his bride, Laura arrives in style at our premises:
With her happy dad and beautiful bridesmaids in tow…
Laura was a vision in her gorgeous gown of lace and satin, accompanied by a chic net veil; clutching a simple yet stunning bouquet of roses and gypsophila by Barkers the Florist.
Let the civil ceremony commence: Beneath the art deco chandeliers and soft voiles of our impressive ballroom, photographer Lizzie Henshaw captures some lovely moments of the couple while their loved ones look on:

As a versatile wedding venue, The Bowdon Rooms is ideal as the backdrop for any wedding theme. But, as the building dates back to 1903, special occasions which give a nod to the vintage are a particularly seamless fit. “We immediately knew it was ‘the one’. It was everything we were looking for”.
Adding to the romance, Laura’s bridesmaids in their incredibly demure dresses of pale dove grey were another winner in the style stakes – as well as Laura’s fabulous Westwood shoes!
Then, the bride and groom were whisked off to a glorious place of natural flora and forna: Denzell Gardens. With an abundance of wild flowers and ornamental trees; decorative water features and beautiful nineteenth-century house, this breathtaking spot is only a five-minute drive from The Bowdon Rooms. Here, our happy couple had some gorgeous relaxed snaps to add to the wedding album…
After the fun outside, it was time to get the party started inside. Our upstairs lounge was where welcome drinks and canapés were served. While guests enjoyed bubbly and tasty bites including chicken satay skewers, mini Greek parcels, king prawn in filo wraps, and mini beef Wellington to name a few, they were serenaded by smooth Sinatra singer, David Knopov.
As part of the brilliant service from The Bowdon Rooms, the entire venue is dedicated to each wedding, so guests can relax in the knowledge that the premises are completely personal to the happy couple. So, it’s only fitting that the venue is kitted out to the exact taste of our Mr and Mrs:
We also offer experienced wedding planners who can bring all the elements of the day together, seamlessly and stress-free. “Right from the start, the organisers knew exactly what I wanted. Karen was very supportive in allowing me to be free with my ideas and also being there when I needed her advice.”
Our bride added, “The organisers definitely met my expectations – I was overwhelmed. All the hard work had paid off and the place looked beautiful. We had so many comments throughout the day about how the venue and the décor looked.”

And more personal touches made the day even more memorable. “We had done everything ourselves: the centrepieces, the flowers, the memories table, which just made everything even more special – seeing all our hard work come together.”
Among the guests were people who added their own special touch: photographer-friend Lizzie Henshaw for the wonderful images; friend Lauren Coe who made the wedding gown; the cake by cousin Katie Hardisty; and a plethora of cakes by friends and family. And not forgetting recognition for Laura herself, in adding several special touches of her own – including table centrepieces and bunting – to create a very bespoke ambience that entwined the love of this fabulous couple.
When it was time to get onto our reputed sprung maple dance floor, the music that filled the air was by Baked A La Ska – a wonderfully fun choice for the evening’s entertainment.
“All day we had people telling us how beautiful the venue looked. It was really lovely to hear. Guests said that they’d never been to a wedding like this before, and that it felt more like one big party than a wedding.”
“From the ceremony to the reception, all our guests kept commenting on how perfect everything was – and it really was.”
It was our absolute pleasure! Warmest congratulations to Laura and Louie!
